The Curriculum

CIS offers the IGCSE,'A' Levels and the IBDP for its graduating classes. The School follows the Cambridge International Primary Programme for the primary years and the CIE Secondary1 in middle school. The students take the Primary and the Secondary Check Points (CIE) in grade 5 and grade 8 respectively.

The school iis-a British Council-affiliated Centre for London Examinations with Edexcel International (Centre No. 93058) and for Cambridge International Examinations (Centre No. IN218). Calcutta International School is also an IB World School.

Textbooks are carefully selected keeping the CIE and the IB recommendations in mind. All such textbooks are provided by the school to students. Reference books of international standard are also available in the Library for the students to use.

CIS offers three academic streams: Business Studies, Humanities, and Science. The school's pedagogical philosophy is to impart quality education within the non-coercive regime of discipline, from Pre-Nursery right up to grade 12. Accordingly, the number of students per class/section is generally limited to twenty four. The school's academic record, at IGCSE, 'A' Levels and the IBDP compares favourably with the best in the world.

All the conventional school level subjects are taught, besides languages, art and computer science. It has fully equipped laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computing Studies.

A unique feature of our school is that private tuitions are discouraged. Extra help is offered in all subjects during school hours as far as possible. Sometimes children stay back after formal lessons are over, to catch up in areas that need greater attention.

A more formal approach to academics begins from middle school. Instead of the integrated science course done earlier, they are now introduced to the three separate disciplines of Science, namely Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Projects, reference and research work, independent and group activities are encouraged.

Firm foundation for the IGCSE is laid in grade 8. Children are offered a choice of subjects at the end of that year. The school organizes Career Counseling to guide students regarding their choice of subjects for the IGCSE.

All Board exams are taken in the May-June session.
