IB & A Levels

At CIS we understand that the high school years are pivotal in shaping a student’s future. We are one of the few schools in the country that offer two academic pathways in Grades 11 and 12 : the Cambridge A Levels and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program, each designed to empower students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed for success on the global stage. Students can select which curriculum to study based on their aptitudes, interests and goals.

A’ levels

The Cambridge A’ Levels offer a strong foundation for university studies, in a wide range of subjects.

  • Globally Recognized Qualification:The General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (A Level) is regarded as the ‘gold standard’ of Cambridge qualifications and is recognized by universities around the world

  • Assessment Method: Board Examinations can be linear, giving students the optionto focus on specific units at a time, reducing pressure while enhancing learning or take all exams at once to demonstrate the ability to withstand academic rigour

IB Diploma Program

The IB Diploma Programme is the world’s most recognised and sought-after High School Qualification.

It spans six subject groups—Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Mathematics, Sciences, and The Arts—emphasizing a broad, interdisciplinary education.

  • Curriculum Overview: The IB Curriculum is a comprehensive educational framework that emphasizes critical thinking, global awareness, and personal development. This distinctive approach prepares students not just academically but also as thoughtful, engaged global citizens.
  • Comprehensive Learning Experience: IB Diploma Programme includes a core component that consists of Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), providing a well-rounded education.
  • Subject Groups: The IB Diploma Programme comprises six subject groups, reflecting the programme’s breadth. The options include Language and Literature (Group 1), Language Acquisition (Group 2), Individuals and Societies (Group 3), The Sciences (Group 4), Mathematics (Group 5) and The Arts (Group 6)
  • Subject Level Options: Students choose three subjects at Higher Level (HL) and three at Standard Level (SL), with the possibility of pursuing four HL subjects with special permission.
  • Subjects Offered:
    • Group 1: English Language and Literature HL/SL (compulsory) 
    • Group 2: Hindi B SL, French B SL, French ab initio , Spanish B SL,  Spanish ab initio , German B SL, German ab initio  (any 1 is compulsory)
    • Group 3: Psychology HL/SL, History HL/SL, Economics HL/SL,  Business Management HL/SL, Environmental Systems & Societies HL & SL (any 1 is compulsory) 
    • Group 4: Biology HL/SL, Computer Science HL/SL, Chemistry SL/HL, Environmental Systems & Societies HL & SL, Physics HL/SL. (any 1 is compulsory, can do 2 or 3 sciences if desired) 
    • Group 5: Mathematics Analysis and Approaches HL/SL, Mathematics Applications and Interpretations SL. (any 1 is compulsory) 
    • Group 6: Visual Art HL/SL (not compulsory – can take an extra science  Group 3 or Group 4 subject instead)
  • Interdisciplinary Approach: The curriculum promotes connections between subjects, allowing students to explore themes and issues from multiple perspectives, enhancing their understanding of complex topics.
  • Rigorous Assessment: The assessment system includes internal and external evaluations, ensuring that students demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the material.
  • IB Learner Profile: The IB program prioritizes the development of the “Learner Profile” attributes, encouraging every student to embody these traits. Lesson plans, units of inquiry, and projects are specifically designed to help students cultivate and demonstrate one or more of these essential qualities.
  • The IB Diploma Programme Core: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), and the Extended Essay (EE). These elements distinguish the IBDP from all other educational programmes.
    Complements individual subjects and extends throughout the Diploma Programme. TOK: Central to the philosophy of the IB programme, offers students the opportunity to question knowledge, reflect critically on diverse ways of knowing and consider the role of knowledge in their culture and the culture of others.

CAS: Experiential core component to cultivate resilience, a strong sense of commitment. It encourages leadership, active participation, and collaboration beyond the classroom.

EE: The independent research component of the IB Diploma Programme, develops investigative, critical analysis and thinking skills. It fosters academic curiosity, independence, time management, and the ability to construct and communicate complex arguments effectively.
